Our Story

Mama Alice was established in 2000 by Elie Abou-Haila. Having worked in the food industry for over 25 years, Elie's vision was to deliver to others the quality Mediterranean and Middle Eastern products which he had been enjoying for much of his life. Elie first set up in Laverton Market selling nuts, beans, dried fruits and numerous Mediterranean & Middle Eastern produce. Having received such positive feedback and feeling a demand for his produce, Elie purchased a small shop in Lalor to expand his vision. Soon after, Elie started roasting his own nuts from premium grade raw material, taking great pride in creating the best quality he could. Sadly, on the 7th of December 2017, Elie departed this world leaving behind his dear family, friends and much loved business. He will always be remebered for his amazing smile, his ever so gentle heart, and his compassion both inside and outside of work. Mama Alice continues to grow, (with Elie's son Francois, who now overlooks the family business) and is an ever growing business where the products are of exceptionally high standards and customers are always satisfied.
